To Buy or rent? Which is the best choice?
Most of us, for as long as we can remember, have heard that it's always better to buy one's own home than to rent, if at all possible. Yet, in today's interesting financial market, there are certainly some options to weigh before one takes on the obligation, not to mention the risk, of buying a house.
First of all, it's important to be aware that owning a home is seldom cheaper than renting. Not only is the payment usually much higher, the care and upkeep of owning a home can be quite costly. With a rental, it's the landlord who is responsible for major upkeep in your domicile. If you're buying a home, then it's you who must repair the hot water heater or replace the stove. Of course, when renting, you may sometimes have to make the choice of paying a higher rent or moving at the end of a lease.
Still, renting can be very positive in the right place at the right time. From a choice of cozy Portland Oregon apartments in the northwest to flamboyant Florida Condos in the southeast, renting with the right options can be a good choice.
One the other hand, owning your own home can be a thrilling experience, not to mention the feeling of permanence and security it can give you and your family. If a house is the right price and in the right location, then it may very well be the perfect solution to your rent or buy questions.
So, what is the right choice? First, look carefully at both the pros and cons of renting or buying before making that decision. Second, make sure that your decision fits your family situation. And third, when the right answer becomes obvious, go for it!
