finding the right loan officer
by Dan Rafter on June 1, 2009
Drag me to Hell, the new movie by Sam Raimi, received mixed reviews last week. But it certainly can't be the critical darling of mortgage loan officers.
That's because the star of the film, the person being dragged to Hell, is a mortgage loan officer at a California bank. And she's getting dragged to Hell precisely because of her occupation.
Yes, as if mortgage loan officers, with business shrinking and more of them struggling to stay in business, don't have enough problems. Now they're fair game for Hollywood.
In the film, star Alison Lohman plays a mortgage loan officer who forecloses on a loan held by an old gypsy woman. This turns out not be a good move, for either the old lady or the loan officer. A curse is invoked. And everything goes to, well, Hell.
You can read more about this movie and its odd mortgage connection at The Atlantic blog. It's an interesting story, and a fun read.
You have to wonder if we'll see more Hollywood movies where loan officers turn out to be partially villainous. Hollywood loves to take on easy targets. Usually that means Nazis. Maybe now it'll mean mortgage loan officers, too.
